International Women's Day Special 2023 - Shamaine-Lei Robinson

To celebrate International Women's Day, we interviewed some influential women to share with you all about why IWD is important to them.

What’s your name? Shamaine Lei-Robinson

What’s your profession? Business Strategist & Break Through Coach

What’s your business? Shamaine Lei-Robinson Business Coaching (currently Marketing Without the BS – in the process of a rebrand/relaunch)

Where is this business? Bridgend, South Wales

What does #embracequity mean to you? Understanding, recognising, and helping those that need help to achieve equal rights regardless of age, colour, sex or background.

In which area do you support women? I support Women with Wealth and Money

Which women have inspired you over the last year generally? Honestly, I can’t pick three because different women inspire me every day. I think it was Brene Brown who said “if you are not in the area getting your ass kicked, I am not interested in your feedback”

Any woman who is prepared to go after what she wants in this world, or who has a dream to make this world a better place for us and the next generations to come are an inspiration to me. Be it a family fleeing a war zone, to someone with celebrity status using their platform to shine a light on any area of equality, right down to the unknown women who fight every day for their themselves, their family, their community – they inspire me.

Which local women have inspired you in the last year? Local to me is a lady called Kerrie Aldridge, who I meet about 6 years ago at a Superwoman Networking Event in Cardiff. Kerrie and her story inspire me daily. She is a force of nature and she knows exactly why she gets out of bed every day. What she has achieved over the last couple of years, from running the London Marathon, cold water swimming and raising money for charity is both humbling, inspiring and truly remarkable.

Kerrie challenges the norm in a number of ways – mental health, miscarriage, body confidence and pushing herself to the next level.

What do you think are the biggest issues facing women this year and beyond?

  • Money and Education is a big issue for women. I want to show women that they can be wealthy if that is one of their goals and dream in life.
  • In the workplace, gender pay equality and a seat at the table. Not just a token seat
  • Violence and women’s basic human rights
  • Period Poverty
  • Menopause and the effects this has on a woman - mentally, physically and in the work pace.

Why do you think it's important to have an International Women's Day? Our history - it is important to remember and mark it. Remarkable women have gone before us to fight to ensure we have the freedom, equality and voice we have today. We need to honour them and keep moving forward to ensure that one day there is equal rights for everyone.

The younger generation of children need to see that we are changing the world, be it slowly, and they too have a voice if they choice to have one.
