How to Get Back to Normal After an Epic Trip
Make a Plan for the Week Ahead
When you are on the return journey, ease the transition to normality by planning the week ahead. Will you be going straight back to work, or taking a few days off to readjust? If it is option A, have a tentative exploration of the work inbox to get a sense of how many unread messages there are to sift through. This will give you a better clue as to how much catching up there is to do, and you may even feel inspired to answer a few.
If you have a few days off to recalibrate, try to tackle your suitcase and work through a few busy tasks to help your mindset refocus in the right direction.
Unpack and Tackle the Laundry
Unpacking is a task that some people put off for weeks on end, and others dive into straight away. If you are in the former camp rather than the latter, this strategy is never advisable. Getting your clothes out of the bag and into the wash instead of leaving them sitting there taunting you will make you feel better even if you don’t realize it yet.
Make a Healthy Meal
Don’t get pulled in by the temptation of a quick fix takeout. Vacations and traveling are likely to make you stray from the healthy path, and now that you’re home, it’s better to dive straight back into looking after your body and mind as soon as possible. Everyone is allowed to break their fitness and diet rules when they’re away from home but coming back means making an active decision to eat right again.
Meet Up with Friends or Family
It doesn’t matter if you went away for a week or a month, catching up with your loved ones is a wonderful opportunity to come back to reality. There are so many options that you could do, and it will make your heart happy to see the people you’ve been missing too.
Go Through Your Photos
Every explorer takes a bunch of photos so that they don’t forget a single moment. Whether it is selfies, nature shots, horizon pictures, or group silliness, looking through those snaps will make you feel happy. Create a collage for social media to show your friends and family, and get a few favorites printed out for the wall.
Think About the Next Big Adventure
Of course, there’s no harm at all in planning your next big adventure. Get back on those travel sites and start thinking about logistics and potential dates. It will keep you motivated and give you something great to look forward to.
Getting back to normal after an epic trip is challenging but manageable. Remember all those wonderful adventures and keep them close until the next one comes along.
