Summer is over and Autumn is finally here! The forest floors are splattered with golden leaves, the landscapes are beginning to change colour and the colder weather is creeping in. We’ve put together a guide to some of the best places for an autumnal walk in and around Cardiff...

Bute Park

Bute Park

About: Bute Park is Cardiff's biggest city centre park, with 130 acres of meadows, woodland and parkland to explore. Bute Park is the perfect place for spotting wildlife, hunting for sculptures, learning about the history of the park and lots more. It is the perfect place to go for an autumnal walk as the floors become flooded in an array of colours, conkers splatter on the floor, the trees become bare and the rich smell of winter, fresh air takes over!

Castell Coch

About: Castell Coch is not just known for its beautiful medieval stately castle, but also the surrounding woodlands which makes the perfect autumn, leisurely stroll as the trees become bare, the floors become a blanket of leaves and you can immerse yourself in the fresh autumn air. The dragon trail around Forest Fawr behind Castell Coch is ideal for families. There are wood carvings along the route, fabulous views and it's great for collecting conkers.

Coed Y Wenallt

About: Coed y Wenallt is situated just past Rhiwbina, in North Cardiff, it is a 44 hectare area of designated ancient woodland. Yet another place that has plenty of paths and loops in which you can spend hours wandering, or have a quick 20 minute stroll. With a huge variety terrains, it is the perfect place for an autumnal walk for all abilities and ages!

Fforest Fawr

Fforest Fawr

About: Fforest Fawr in Tongwynlais, is situated in North Cardiff and is absolutely glorious at this time of year. There are 3 clearly signposted walks that vary in length and difficulty but are stunning when the autumnal colours appear. They also offer a sculpture trail, which is a perfect activity for the kids to get involved with. There’s a little cafe down the road to visit once you've trecked enough and it’s right next to Castell Coch, so you can make a whole day out of this forest!

Forest Farm Country Park

About: Forest Farm Country Park is an expansive woodland and nature reserve with rivers, woods, lakes and plenty of wildlife to spot. You will be able to see many species of wildlife, there's a sweet little nature trail with sculptures, carvings and a nature play area for children. Filled with stunning trees and autumnal flowers it really does make it a great place to head for an Autumn walk.
