Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and one of the cultural hotspots of the United Kingdom. It is beyond famous and has a rich history that blends with modern innovation. We will share a few of the features of this great city with you below.
Cardiff is a much sought-after place to live. However, property in Cardiff currently comes at a premium price. Many say you need to win the lottery to afford a home in this city. To own property in Cardiff, serious investment is required.
Cardiff is famous for its super-modern stadiums. It is also well-known for Edwardian and Victorian shopping arcades. They include High Street Arcade, Castle Arcade, and Duke Street Arcade. Each is filled with high-end shopping stores, restaurants, cafes, and a wide selection of independent shops. At night, Castle Quarter is the city's nightlife hub, where you will enjoy the best clubs and pubs. The general atmosphere of the area of one of fun, class, and sport. It is unlike any other place in the UK. As mentioned, the city is a unique blend of historical sights and buildings and modern-day conveniences.
What has led to the housing issue? Wales is not the only place that is experiencing housing issues. Some experts explain that Cardiff is experiencing now is not unlike similar problems in places like London. Further, you cannot blame a single incident as the cause of the problem.
Before the prices of real estate began to balloon in Cardiff, there was a housing shortage. There were simply not enough affordable houses for the many students and others with lower incomes to rent. This was an issue the Cardiff Council was addressing as far back as 2018. However, the solution may have become part of the problem.
One of the answers the city came up with was the approval of the building of apartments. As living in apartments became the “normal” for most people moving into Cardiff, the price of actual
houses began to rise. Buying a home with a garden, privacy, and the perk of owning the property became a luxury.
Working from home and other changes
As we all went through drastic changes, most of us found ourselves being mandated to stay in our homes. Suddenly, apartment living was no longer a convenient way to live. Many people found it more comfortable and cheaper to rent out of the city. Homes in areas an hour or two from the city were preferred and were snapped up. Now cities have apartments competing to rent, and the prices of homes are even more elevated.
Popular hotspots where buyers are purchasing in Cardiff
Demand is always highest in areas that are historical and naturally beautiful. Here are some of the most popular areas where homes are being bought at premium prices in Cardiff. This is expected to continue at least through 2022.
- Carmarthenshire
- This district has many historic homes, and the area is lovely. It is a prosperous area with more than 80 “Special Scientific Interest sites.” The beaches are
proclaimed as some of the most beautiful in the country. This is considered one of the most desired places to live.
- Pembrokeshire
- When it comes to the increase in housing, Pembrokeshire is the fourth highest in Wales. Pembrokeshire is the only coastal national park in the UK. There are more than 185-miles of coastal pathways. Enjoy sandy beaches such as Newport, Whitesands, Barafundle, and Freshwater West. You will see picture-perfect fishing villages, cliffs, and smuggler's caves. Homes here are beautiful by any standards.
Most affordable hotspots (expected to rise later this year)
Experts explain that the following hotspots are more affordable but are beginning to rise in price. As more interest is shown in the valley, they expect the prices to increase significantly in the year's later months. This is a good time to invest in the following areas:
- Wales Blaenau Gwent
- Merthyr Tydfil
- Rhondda Cynon Taf
- Neath Port Talbot and
- Caerphilly
- Omicron
None of us know what the future holds. We know the housing situation will be addressed because the future of the city depends upon it. We know the people who can invest in property today are secure in their investment, but tomorrow's future is not so sure. As we go into the second half of 2022, we wonder what the authorities have in mind to correct the issues. Until a solution is introduced, we are grateful for the many options that living in this great part of the world affords our citizens. We trust Cardiff will pull through this crisis. There has never been an obstacle that has stopped her progress throughout history, and the housing problem will not be the first. Of this, we can be sure.
