What I Love About My Business!

Today's business owner sharing what she loves about her business is Beverley Jones who is managing director of Awaken Coaching. Bev is a business and well-being mentor who is based in South Wales but works with clients globally.

What do you love about running your own business?

The freedom to run my own diary.

The choices it gives me to help others in whatever direction I choose.

Fulfillment of knowing that success depends on me and me alone.

What do you love about your business community?

The friends I have made along the way which in turn supports me in running my business.

What do you love socially/geographically about your community?

As I live in a smaill Welsh village there is so much to love. There are many beautiful walks around the area which means that travel by car is not necessary in order to enjoy all nature has to offer; the community spirit within the village is what has helped hold it together during recent times and the fact you can literally purchase anything you need from the local shops means unless we choose to there is no need to visit a local, bigger, town.

While we are locked down name any business you have ‘loved’ and bought from in your community over the last few months?

The local Nisa store, Neil James (The Butchers) and The Raglan Pharmacy

February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day – have you carried out any  random acts of kindness (business or otherwise) over the last few months?

During the first lockdown I popped a note through all the houses in our cul de sac and as a result I ended up doing weekly shops for up to eight of them (count in vulnerable family members and my shopping trips were for 10 households weekly)! It kept me sane and busy!

Has anyone shown kindness to you?

I am lucky to have a good community of both business and social friends, as a result I am often receiving things in the post from them, flowers, chocolates, gifts and cards - these never fail to make me smile and realise how lucky I am.

In the yearly cycle of your business – what do you expect during February? Eg. busy, quiet, planning etc.

During February the business tends to still be busy from people wanting assistance coming into a New Year, it is this time when potential clients reach out as they start the New Year often wanting change and as a result they look for someone who can hold them accountable for the resolutions they put in place.

What would your advice be to a business owner who is feeling ‘flat’ in February?

Remember Spring is just around the corner; take time to plan some goals, reach out to others in your business community, have conversations, if you need help ask for it (you up your chance of receiving it by 50% just by asking) and remember this too will pass as you push forward into the lighter months.

And finally:

No one is an island, help is always out there.

If you don't have a strong network then start building one, attend meetings, talk to those locally and on line, join free groups, remember to gain traction in your business you have to gain direction.
