TGt Meets…Holly from Black Nova Designs

I am an animal lover through and through and run my own stable yard (livery) business alongside my full-time role with Black Nova Designs. I feel very grateful to have such supportive employers who not only accept that I run a business around working for them, but they whole heartedly encourage its success.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I’m Holly, I am 27 years old and probably have quite the unorthodox entrance into the world of marketing and business development. How you might ask? I self-published a printed, quarterly country lifestyle magazine for four years, teaching myself all that I now know about social media, marketing, publishing, writing, design and ultimately small business development.

Describe your job role at Black Nova Designs…

My role at Black Nova Designs is exciting and varied. Officially, I work as Head of Marketing and Business Development, I oversee, plan and implement our marketing strategy across Black Nova Designs, Black Nova Technologies and soon, our equestrian arm.

I write articles for the media, produce Press Releases when we have exciting news to share and create our social media content. I also work closely with Danielle to identify and understand Black Nova’s narrative and story so that we can share what makes us unique, why we do what we do and why you should come to us for web design, web hosting or IT solutions!

I also put together monthly reports for our SEO clients, and I love tracking anayltics and stats!

What inspired you to fulfil a career in this particular industry?

Since I launched my own magazine back in 2017, I have been captivated by the power of marketing and social media marketing in particular. Having known Black Nova for years now – they designed and host my own website – the opportunity to work with them was one that was too good to pass. I was looking for a job alongside my yard, to give me something different to do and a mental break away from the horses (who I love), my role hadn’t even been advertised, it was purely through a conversation between friends that evolved into a suggestion, an opportunity and then an official offer which I grabbed with both hands!

What do you love most about working at Black Nova Designs?

Technology has always intrigued me, so it is interesting every day I am in the office. However mostly, I love Kyle and Danielle’s passion for their brand and services. I’ve worked with hundreds of small businesses over the years with the magazine, and I am always in awe of their dedication and belief in their business. Black Nova are no different.

The work I do is recognised and appreciate by my bosses, something I think is all too rare in the workplace. Danielle will regularly tell me when she likes something, or something has done well and that really fuels my own performance.

For me, as I mentioned earlier though, the fact that Danielle and Kyle are both so accommodating of my existing business and commitments, and are both welcoming and understanding that I have a Labrador puppy who needs to come to the office with me is fantastic! They are hugely accommodating and supportive of both me and the rest of the team, we each have our own personal/family commitments that D&K respect and offer their support with where they can. I am unsure how readily I would find such a special attitude towards employees elsewhere.

When you’re not busy working what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Oh goodness, when I am not busy working for Black Nova, I am likely to be busy working on the yard with the horses. Though when I am finished with that, you can likely find me out walking Nellie my Labrador, or riding through the countryside on my horse Simba.

I love spending time with family and friends too and will never turn down the offer for dinner!

What 3 things do you help bring to the team at Black Nova Designs?

I believe I bring a different perspective to the team, when it comes to marketing through my own experience as an entrepreneur and having grown my own social media organically from 0 to over 20K through storytelling, engagement and consistent content.

I actually feel that me being totally un-techy can be of value to the team in some instances, I can help bridge the gap sometimes between the industry and the consumer, this especially comes in handy when we are trying to think of ways to market our services in a way which connects with the client that they understand and can relate too.

I also bring an adorable office puppy to the team too!
